Helping to increase quality child care in the Lamoille Valley is the focus of the Child Care Resource Development program. A Resource Development Specialist fosters quality care by offering professional development opportunities, Welcome to Child Care Visits, mentoring, career development resources, STARS support, literacy visits and a friendly ear for child care providers. Some of the trainings offered to enhance the knowledge and skills of early educators who work and play with children are Child Development, Observing and Recording, Designing Environments, Positive Guidance, Vermont Early Learning Standards, Literacy, Active Listening, Nutrition, The Introverted Child and Professionalism. For more information about professional development opportunities, click here. STARS is a Vermont initiative designed to expand the ways providers are rewarded for program quality. The STep Ahead Recognition System (STARS) program adds to the many efforts the Child Development Division (CDD) has already established to improve the quality of care for Vermont children. To apply for STARS recognition, child care providers complete a self assessment and submit supporting documentation. Providers can apply for recognition in five arenas:
