Holiday Activities Serve Record Numbers
Tuesday, January 26, 2010

Each year the Lamoille Family Center offers two holiday activities to help make the holidays a bit brighter for area families.

The Holiday Project allows families to "shop" for new toys, games and puzzles, hats and mittens, and stocking stuffers in exchange for completing two hours of community service.  In 2009, this project served a record number of families - 139, with 271 children.  Gifts totalling nearly $17,000 were distributed, all provided by donations from the community.

The Adopt A Family Project allows families who are referred by an area case worker to be matched with a donor (family, business, religious group) who shops for members of the family based upon a wish list.  Families can participate in this program once in a lifetime.  In 2009, this program served a record number of families - 25, with 59 children and 38 adults.  These families received a total of nearly $18,000 in gifts.  An estimated 260 volunteers from 28 families, businesses, or groups assisted with the project - shopping, wrapping, delivering gifts.

Planning has already begun for the 2010 projects.  Please call 888-5229 to learn how you can assist with these efforts.
